Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa was born on 10 February 1978 in Zambia, son of Mafidi Mnangagwa, and moved to Zimbabwe as a young child. He attended Haig Park Primary School in Harare before completing his O Levels at Gokomere High School in Masvingo Province, and finishing secondary school at Prince Edward School in Harare. He holds a certificate in marketing from Harare Polytechnic and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Honours in Development Studies at the Zimbabwe Open University.
He joined ZANU–PF at the age of 18, becoming youth chairperson for the party’s Tangwena District at 20. Moving through Harare’s Leopold Takawira District, he rose from committee member to political commissar of the main board — a two-decade climb through the party’s structures before he first stood for office. He is the nephew of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Beyond politics, he is the founder of Tonganyika Trust, which connects Zimbabwean communities with free vocational and skills training, and holds several business directorships (see below).
He is married to Gwendolyn Mnangagwa and the couple live in the Mabelreign suburb of Harare with their seven children.

Won the Harare South seat and was sworn into Parliament on 5 September 2018. In office, he championed the Stoneridge Health Centre, income-generating projects such as soap-making, and grid connections across the constituency.
Elected MP for the new Hunyani Constituency
Won the newly created Hunyani seat in the 23–24 August 2023 harmonised elections, carrying strongholds including Retreat.
Appointed Deputy Minister of Tourism & Hospitality Industry
Named to Cabinet by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on 11 September 2023, working alongside Minister Barbra Rwodzi to grow Brand Zimbabwe. The appointment — alongside cousin David Kudakwashe Mnangagwa's appointment as Deputy Finance Minister — drew public commentary on family representation in cabinet, which is part of the public record around the announcement.
Founds Hunyani United Football Club
Registered the club in the ZIFA Eastern Region's Mashonaland East Division Two league, restricting the squad to players from Hunyani Constituency to build a pipeline for local talent.
